Building Bridges through Football: Somaliland Diaspora Team Returns Home

 

The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi, met today with a football team from the Somaliland diaspora in the UK who recently arrived in the country.

 

The meeting, attended by the president, cabinet members, the director general of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, team management, parents of the players, and representatives of the UK expatriate football team, was held to welcome and engage with the visiting team

 

The young players from Somaliland, who had been residing in the UK, participated in friendly matches with local teams in different regions of the Republic of Somaliland upon their return. This initiative aimed to foster cultural exchange, build stronger community ties, and promote sportsmanship among the youth.

 

During the meeting, several officials, including the Minister of the Interior, Mr. Mohamed Kahin Ahmed, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Rooda Jama Ilmi, and the Director General of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Abdirashid Aydeed Yassin, spoke to the young athletes. They encouraged them to connect with their homeland and expressed gratitude for their interest in learning about their country and engaging with its people in various regions.

 

President Bihi praised the young players for coming back to their country and recognized the parents for their support. He warmly greeted the players, saying, “I offer my congratulations to the young athletes and their families. I am thrilled that you have returned and connected with different regions of our country.”
