H.E. Musa Bihi Abdi, President of the Republic of Somaliland, has issued Presidential Decree Lr. 91/2020, which sets out timelines for Political Party and Presidential elections.
Having Seen:
- Article 16(1) of the General Law on Elections and Voter Registration, Law No. 91/2020, which states that the Electoral Commission has the power to determine the time of the elections, by submitting it to the President to issue a Decree;
- Article 6(1) of the General Law on Elections and Voter Registration, Law No. 91/2020, which stipulates that the Commission shall determine the dates for holding the Elections in accordance with the Constitution and the Law, based on a month before the term of the President, Vice President and the House of Representatives, and it shall be officially determined by the Degree of President;
Having Considered:
- The text marked No. KDG/XK/K-6/56/2023, dated 05/08/2023, which was submitted by the NEC in the decision marked No. KDG/XK/K-6/54/2023, dated 17/07/2023, which the Commission decided on these points:
- That the National Party elections will be held on December 28, 2023, in order to find three valid National Parties, and be given a Party Certificate for ten (10) years, in accordance with Article 5(3)(j) of the Law on Organizations and Political Parties Act No. 14/2011.
- That the election of the President and the Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland will be held on November 13, 2024, one month before the end of the term of office of the President and the Vice President, as mentioned in Article 83(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Somaliland, in accordance with the decision of a period Extension of Senate reference GG/JSL/G-03/10/2022, dated 01/10/2022.
I Decided;
- Political Party Elections shall be held in the Republic of Somaliland on December 28, 2023.
- The election of the President and the Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland shall be held on November 13, 2024.
