The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi, and a delegation led by him left for New York and met with the UN Under-Secretary-General at the United Nations Headquarters. 

The President was accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Issa Keyd Mohamud and the Ambassador of the Republic of Somaliland to the United States Amb. Bashir Sheikh Omar Good.

At this closed-door meeting, the President of the Republic of Somaliland and the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations discussed important issues for the nation of the Republic of Somaliland. Dr Issa gave a briefing afterwards and said, “Today we had a meeting with one of the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations to discuss the issue of Somaliland and how the United Nations could provide direct assistance to Somaliland, without going through other channels.”

The Minister went on to say, “We also discussed agricultural development, fisheries, the effects of recurrent droughts and how to deal with precipitation and build more dams in our country. This meeting was a success for us, and another victory for Somaliland.”

After the meeting, the President’s delegation returned to Washington DC to continue their work there.
