The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi, yesterday received in his office the Ambassador of Sweden, Amb. Per Lindgarde. Amb. Lindgarde had arrived in Somaliland on behalf of his country, to express condolences to the people of Somaliland. 

Amb. Lindgarde stated that they were saddened by the loss of Waheen market, the largest trading center in Somaliland, which was recently engulfed in fire. He also promised that Sweden is ready to help in any way possible with the relief efforts. 

In addition to that, the Ambassador mentioned that they will soon convene an emergency conference in Nairobi, attended by EU member states, to discuss how to contribute financially to the catastrophic Waheen market crisis.

For his part, President Bihi thanked the Ambassador for his commitment and support to the people of Somaliland during this tragic time. The president also briefed them on the magnitude of the fire crisis and the extent of the economic damage it has caused to the market community.
