The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi, has for the first time spoken out strongly against the protests by the opposition parties at the opening of the political associations, and called for the rule of law and the Constitution to be respected.

The President spoke about the law on the opening of Associations and Parties under law No. 14 and its directives, and made it clear that by May next year the registration of political associations will officially begin. “The law requires the three national parties to be elected every ten years with the expiration of their political license, as defined in law No. 14. The same law also requires us to reopen the associations six months before the end of the party license period, which falls in May 2022. Therefore, as a government, we are implementing the path that the law has set and no one can stop it,” said President Bihi.
