The 132nd session of the Cabinet of the Republic of Somaliland, chaired by President H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi, convened today to discuss key issues concerning national security, the economy, and preparations for the upcoming elections.

The session began with a report on the overall security situation presented by the Minister of Interior, Mr. Mohamed Kahin Ahmed. Following this, the Minister of Finance Development, Dr. Saad Ali Shire, delivered an update on the country’s economic status and the preparation of the 2025 budget forecast.

The Cabinet also held discussions and analyses on the draft of the Penal Code. Additionally, the Minister of Information, Mr. Ali Hassan Mohamed, and the Attorney General, Mr. Abdisamad Omar Maal, introduced the draft of the new Somaliland Media Law, which will replace the previous Media Law LR.27/2004. They provided a detailed overview of the key elements of the new law and its significance, outlining how it differs from the old legislation. Discussions on these two laws will continue in future sessions.

Finally, the Cabinet had an in-depth discussion on the preparations for the elections scheduled for November 13, 2024, and called on the citizens of the Republic of Somaliland to get ready for the elections and to defend the nation’s interests.
