The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi, accompanied by local government officials, including the mayor and members of the cabinet along with hundreds of residents in various districts of the capital, joined in collecting rubbish and clearing the streets of the city this morning.
The President and his entourage, armed with various garbage collection equipment, took to the different districts they reached this morning during the clean-up campaign, and encouraged the working community they met to redouble their efforts to clean up the city.
First, the mayor of Hargeisa, Mr. Abdikarin Ahmed Mooge, who was part of the campaign this morning, thanked the President and his accompanying government officials for participating in the clean-up campaign, and noted that the President’s arrival was an honor and an encouragement. He said, “Mr. President, as the local government of the Hargeisa Municipality, we are honored that you and your cabinet are with us and taking the garbage into your own hands, and this serves as a great motivation and inspires our staff and the people of Hargeisa who are ready to clean up the city.”
Furthermore, the President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Muse Bihi Abdi, who addressed the gathering after the public meeting, called on the community to take responsibility for cleaning up the city and work together to make the capital city of Hargeisa more attractive. He said, “The 17 boys we elected will not be able to do much by themselves. There are a million and a half people living in Hargeisa, so it’s up to all of us to participate in this clean-up campaign and do our parts.”
The President highlighted the need for a clear national plan for waste management, in order to reduce the cost of living and the social impact it has on the community. “Local government and Central should first put together a system of waste collection in place so that it can be stored in small areas, then later on assembled to be destroyed. And added that even it’s elimination process should not cause us any problems,” said President Muse Bihi Abdi.
